Definition of Spam

Spam, is also known as spamdexing, is an attempt to manipulate the search index so that they can input unwanted contents. Black Hat SEO that wants to spam by uploading unwanted contents to be inputted. Normally, the executor looks for the high rating pages to be infiltrated by spam link and keyword.

For raising the website page rank or service offender, spammers will input their keyword on the website which has a high rank and the user will not realize it since it is one of Black-Hat SEO technique.

  1. Link Injection Spam

Spammer wants to use the user website authority to input the link which leads to other pages. The link is hidden in the user’s content and it is called clickjacking. In general, these link contains pharmaceutical sales, gambling, adult content, and so on.

  1. Posts and Page Spam

Spammer can also use the users’ page to make posts and WordPress pages which give the rank for the wanted keyword.

  1. Email Spam

SEO hacker may also start spamming email to the customers who promote their own products and services. The web owner will be seen as email sender by the customers and search engine, so that the web owner will be considered as a spammer.

  1. Ads Spam

Spammer can also change the advertisement, banner, pop-up, CTA on the users’ WordPress site by promoting everything they want. Also, they can maneuver to their own websites.

Here are some ways to avoid spamming:

  • Always Use Captcha

Captcha is the first line defense against the SPAM. Without using captcha, bot or all of software are easy to send something on the website. If the website can be explored and indexed by Google, make sure that it has a Captcha which is installed on the form page, login page, and the comments sections.

  • The Software Must Be Up To Date

If the website has been obsolete, it can be susceptive towards the spam. Un updated software makes the maneuver can be freely spamming comments, creating new unwanted posts, and putting the backlink on the post for guiding to their own web.

  • Don’t Use Main Email For Subscribing

If you do need to download the free PDF, make sure that you download it using your second email. Users will never know who behind the form is. If it starts receiving the spam, it makes you losing the important email from clients and business partner.

  • Always Monitoring The Backlink

In order to prevent the website from Blackhat SEO attack, the user must constantly monitor the backlink activities. Every sudden spike in the number of backlinks which lead to the website indicates the beginning of spam link. If it is ignored, it will be a serious problem for the users.

36% of WordPress websites which were hacked in 2018 running on the un updated WordPress. If the user chooses to run on the old version website and ignoring the update, then the user is leaving the security open to the hacker.

  1. Vulnerable Plugins and Themes

Theme and plugin add the functionality of WordPress, but it also has a negative impact for the website. Installing it on the website enables the hacker accesses the user’ website. They might start to give the spam and the link, present their content as they want, and make WordPress backdoors that can make the hacker log in to the website whenever they want.

  1. Weak Username and Password

Another automatic hacking WordPress technique that is used is brute force attack. In this case, bot tries every combination of username and password several times. The user must use a unique name and password since it adds the security. Phrases in combination using numbers and symbols are ideal.
