Key Takeaways
  • Bing has announced the development of AI-based generative search to provide smoother and more accurate search results.
  • This update is currently accessible only in beta, with slightly longer loading times.
  • Bing will continue to develop this search feature until it can be widely launched.

On October 1, 2024, Microsoft announced the expansion of Bing's capabilities for generative search. Previously, in July 2024, Microsoft launched the initial preview of Bing's generative search.

Microsoft's Updates for Bing's Generative Search

Bing's generative search leverages artificial intelligence (AI) to provide a unique experience for users, optimizing not only search results but also how those results are displayed in a cohesive layout.

This transformation goes beyond just a more "aesthetic" appearance; it aims to deliver a seamless user experience, allowing users to explore and learn information in new ways.

Additionally, Bing maintains its role as a platform for users seeking answers to questions. This foundation underpins the expansion of Bing's generative search capabilities to effectively respond to informational queries, such as "how to eliminate background noise in a podcast recording," among others.

The goal is that regardless of users' motivations, whether they are looking for detailed information or trying to solve complex problems, Bing's generative AI can provide relevant answers that go beyond surface-level results.

Generative Search for Deep Search

In addition to enhancing the user experience with generative search, Bing is also developing features that allow users to conduct deeper searches by clicking on "deep search" within the search results.

Although it is now accessible to a broader audience, the deep search feature is still in beta testing. If you try it, you may experience slightly longer loading times as Bing ensures that the results displayed are truly relevant and accurate.

In Indonesia, certain devices may already have access to this new feature. However, the availability of deep search can vary depending on individual search preferences and settings. This means that while some users may find the feature readily accessible on their devices, others might not have the same experience.

You will typically see generative search results for informational and complex queries. These queries are often indicated below the search box with the phrase “Results enhanced with Bing generative search.”

Bing will continue to gradually develop this experience to ensure that the search engine can provide a high-quality user experience before ultimately launching it publicly.

The search engine also emphasizes the importance of citations and links that allow users to explore further and verify the accuracy of information, which can ultimately drive more traffic to publishers and promote a healthier web ecosystem.
