Building relationships, or networking, is an essential element in career development and business growth. Not only about making connections, maintaining these relationships is equally important to ensure sustainable success. CEO and Founder of cmlabs, Rochman Maarif, emphasized this in the We in Progress: Turning Network Into Net Worth seminar on Sunday, September 29, 2024.

According to Rochman, networking from an entrepreneurial perspective plays a crucial role in business growth. "We must start networking from the very first day at work and maintain its quality. Though sometimes tiring, keeping this quality is essential so that, one day, we can get valuable feedback," said Rochman in his remarks.

He further explained that maintaining relationships also helps the business continue to grow, as clients will keep recommending cmlabs services to others. "When all relationships come together, maintaining a good network will create a vast web of recommendations," he added, underlining how these connections drive business expansion.

Challenges and Tips for Building Relationships

Cahyanto Arie Wibowo, Director of Business Development at H+ Hakuhodo International Indonesia, also shared his insights, highlighting the challenges of building new relationships. He acknowledged that approaching new people, especially those in higher positions, can be difficult. Cahyanto also stressed the importance of honesty when building relationships.

He advised entrepreneurs to avoid insincerity when interacting with potential connections. "You must be honest when positioning yourself with potential relations. If there’s something you don’t know, be willing to learn," he said.

In line with this, a study from The Malaysian Reserve revealed that one in three Americans associates their current job and salary with personal networks. Among millennials, this figure rises to 40%, demonstrating the importance of networking in professional success.

Rochman Maarif’s insights in this seminar emphasized the importance of building and maintaining relationships for long-term success. As networking’s role in career advancement and business growth becomes more significant, Rochman encourages professionals to remain committed to nurturing their networks, which are valuable assets in both personal and professional life.
