- In preparing its products for the DMA, Google introduced several new features aimed at enhancing user experience in the European Economic Area.
- These new features are introduced in Google Search Central documentation, including rich result carousels, new aggregator units, and refinement chips.
- Currently, these features are in the testing phase for Germany, France, the Czech Republic, and the UK.
As part of its preparations to comply with the Digital Markets Act (DMA), Google has unveiled a series of new features in its search offerings within the European Economic Area (EEA). These features include new rich results, aggregator units, refinement chips, and flight-related queries that provide more comprehensive information to users.
Here are some of the new features introduced by Google through its documentation:
1. Carousel Rich Result for Aggregators and Suppliers
Google announced the addition of rich results and the introduction of a new carousel. With this carousel, users can find more detailed information about travel queries, local businesses, and shopping places.
Each box in the carousel presents price information, ratings, and entity images related to the user's search query. With this feature, users can discover more comprehensive search results on Google.
Currently, this feature is being tested in Germany, France, the Czech Republic, and the United Kingdom.
2. New Aggregator Unit
Google also introduces dedicated aggregator units that provide direct links to aggregator sites from across the web. This feature can enhance transparency and accessibility of information for users, enabling them to view top aggregator results for their search queries.
In this development, Google adds new units such as place, job, flight, and product units.
3. Refinement Chip
To assist users in refining their searches, Google introduces refinement chips such as "Site Location". These chips help users focus on aggregator text results, making navigation easier and speeding up the search process.
4. New Experience for Flight Queries
Lastly, Google also adds a new experience for flight queries, including a special unit for airline websites. This allows users to find and compare flight options directly from official sources, enhancing convenience and efficiency in planning air travel.
With this launch, Google remains committed to improving its search experience while complying with relevant regulations. These steps demonstrate Google's efforts to deliver a better and more informative search experience for users, particularly in the EEA region.
